130726 RAF Barnham Update - Special status should stop RAF Barnham development minster told

Cllr Cliff Waterman, Leader of West Suffolk Council, has written to Alex Norris MP, Minister of State for Border Security and Asylum, explaining how West Suffolk Council believes the legally binding ecological constraints will rule out the development at Barnham Camp

• draws the Minister's attention to the significant environmental and legal constraints associated with the site's location within the Breckland Special Protection Area (SPA) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
• sets out the Council's concerns regarding the impact of these internationally protected habitats, the requirements of the Habitats Regulations, and our view that the ecological constraints affecting Barnham Camp are fundamental and may ultimately prevent the site from being developed for this purpose.
