Statement from Barnham Parish Council:
RAF Barnham Camp
Barnham Parish Council was blindsided by the Government's announcement, released at 10.30pm on 25th June 2026, regarding the proposed change of use of RAF Barnham to accommodate up to 1250 single male asylum seekers.
The Parish Council shares the concerns expressed by our West Suffolk District Councillor Andrew Smith, Suffolk County Council and many parishioners that this proposal is inappropriate for our community. We are all committed to representing the interests of our residents and will work closely with our elected representatives, to ensure that the views and concerns of the community are fully represented.
Barnham Parish Council is currently arranging a public meeting at Barnham Village Hall. Local Authority Leaders, Members of Parliament, West Suffolk District and Suffolk County Councillors will be invited to attend to listen and respond to the views, opinions and concerns of local residents.
The date and further details of the meeting will be announced as soon as they have been confirmed.
